Free the female form. Because the world has caged her beauty for far too long.
Meet the Designer — Somi
The Designs
JNGLI’s colorful, avant-garde designs sit at the intersection of a sculptural, engineering-minded approach and gravity-defying artistry. Strategic use of negative space, white lines, and quiet movement have become the label’s signature style over time.
JNGLI has shown at New York Fashion Week three times (2023, 2024, 2025).
The Creative
Creative Director Somi is an engineer and fashion designer based in Los Angeles, who studied at the University of Michigan and Parsons respectively. She spent the first decade of her career at a variety of Fortune 500 companies in finance, supply chain, M&A, tech (currently at Meta fka Facebook) before returning to grad school for fashion design and launching her own label.
Fashion was always Somi’s way of retaining her individuality and femininity, regardless of what male-dominated industry she was working in. When JNGLI launched in early 2023, she was able to bring together her loves for consumer products, engineering, business, art, and fashion.
The Narrative
The story behind JNGLI’s name is the story of what drives Somi herself.
JNGLI (derived from the Hindi word ‘junglee’) translates to “savage” or “wild one”. It is a derogatory term towards women, representing everything South Asian society deems a proper lady should not be: curly-haired, dark-skinned, independent, outspoken. The list goes on.
In her work, Somi aims to reclaim this narrative and ask the question: “What’s so wrong with being a junglee woman?”
